Some Secrets of Micro Blogging

Micro Blogging Tip: Be Unique

The key to successful micro blogs is that they don’t harp on about whatever the hype of the day is. The internet is a giant echo chamber where everyone talks about whatever the latest “big thing” is, giving their perspective and spin on it in order to be current. There’s nothing wrong with you micro blogging about what you think, but make it a point to move on quickly. Readers get sick of the same topic very quickly, especially in the internet age. Don’t even mention the topic on every microblogging service to make sure you’ve got it covered. Comment on the big microblogging services like Twitter and then talk about something else.

Micro Blogging Tip: Interact

Some people approach micro blogging as if they’re standing on a podium with many people dutifully listening to every word they have to say. That is not what a micro blogging service is. The purpose of micro blogs is to interact with other people, to communicate with them. If someone tweets at you, then tweet them back or retweet what they have said. You should be interacting with your readers every day when you’re micro blogging. Simply tweeting out into the darkness comes off as haughty and arrogant. Social networking is about being social, remember?

Micro Blogging Tip: Be Genuine

What you’re micro blogging about says a lot about who you are. If you only tweet to celebrities or constantly pretend to be someone you’re not, people are going to notice and they will not react in a positive way. Micro blogs should be about genuine human experience – what did you do today? How is your family? What do you think about the big current topic? Utilize microblogging services to be an extension of your real self, not a place to put on a façade and act like someone you are not.
